Victorian Christmas Fairground

Bring back memories and create some new ones with our Victorian Christmas Fairground. Enjoy classic fairground and funfair rides that are sure to put a smile on everyone's face. Breakfast with the Festive Fairy

Start your day with a hearty breakfast and enjoy a visit from our Festive Fairy, who will be stopping by with gifts for the children.

Our Festive Fairy is busy this season, so pre-booking is essential for all guests.

Admission to The Children’s Country House is not included with the breakfast event. Admission tickets and breakfast tickets need to be booked separately. The main site, which includes the museum, garden and hall, opens from 10am.

Star Child Puppet at the Children's Country House

In partnership with City Arts Nottingham, Star Child, an illuminated life-size puppet, will perform at The Children's Country House

Brought to life by our volunteers and the skilled puppeteers from City Arts Nottingham, Star Child will be engaging families on both days with walkabouts in Sudbury Hall and outside in the garden. Then, as the afternoon light fades, Star Child will light up and glow with Christmas excitement. A unique and special treat for all our visitors this festive season.

The Sheriff is trying to steal Christmas!

The mischievous sheriff is plotting to steal the magic of the festive season. Your mission? To join forces with the spirited outlaws and thwart the sheriff’s plans, ensuring that the joy of Christmas remains untainted.

Begin your quest at the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre and follow the Major Oak trail. As you make your way through the forest, keep your eyes peeled for clues and hidden surprises that will assist you and the outlaws. The fate of Christmas hangs in the balance. Trail sheets are available at the Visitor Centre for £3.50.

  • Experience falconry displays at 11.30am and 1pm, weather permitting.

  • Enjoy owl holding from 11am to midday and from 1.15pm to 3pm (additional charge £1).

  • Stay warm and dry whatever the weather in our heated Indoor Playbarn.

We will be open from 10am. When you book tickets, you will be asked to select a time-slot - this is your estimated time to see Santa. Tickets are sold in fifteen-minute blocks, meaning the time you see Santa could be fifteen minutes later than the time shown on your ticket. You are welcome to join us for the whole day, with the exception of Christmas Eve when we will be closing at 2pm.

• Settle down in your very own Christmas sleigh with your family. See Santa and listen to him read you a special Christmas story. Then make sure you get a perfect picture with him before his Elves take you to their workshop to choose a gift! (Please arrive at the Christmas Barn 10 minutes before the time slot you have chosen)

• Christmas Admission includes two coins to spend at the Christmas Market. Will you treat yourself to a hot chocolate, marshmallow roasting, a sweet treat or make some reindeer dust to take home for Christmas Eve?

• 2 Snowflake coins for hot chocolate, 1 to roast marshmallows, 1 to make reindeer dust, 1 or 2 for a treat from the sweetshop.

• Meet our real reindeer inside the Silver Barn and learn all about them at our keeper talk.

• NEW for 2023: Meet our beautiful miniature donkeys.

• See new born lambs, due to be born at the start of December.

• Access to the whole farm, all day, including the Reptiles of the World Exhibit.

Christmas Panto: Goldilocks and the Three Bears

After the success of last years hilarious Lemon Jelly Pantomine, they are back. This time with a brilliant original production of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

55 minutes of perfect panto fun for little ones and we know grown ups will love it too! There will be lots of laughs, interactive fun as well as mischief and mayhem that will keep the kids enthralled and the grown ups in stitches too!

You can choose the daytime or the evening panto. Prices start from just £5 each and everyone aged 1 year upwards will need their own ticket. (Does not include farm admission).

Celebrate the wonder of Santa’s Enchanted Christmas this year!

Meet real reindeer, unleash your creativity at the Create-a-Bear workshop, meet our friendly and happy Elves and receive a gift from the magical chimney! This heart warming adventure promises unforgettable moments of joy and togetherness for the whole family!

You can select the date and time you would like to take part in the Christmas experience. The experience will last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes and includes a variety of activities such as a show, creative tasks, refreshments and a seated session with Father Christmas. Each activity lasts approximately 15 minutes. All tickets include entrance to Bluebell Dairy on the day, anytime before your timeslot. Site opens at 9.30am

Canalside Heritage Centre

Christmas at Canalside 2023

Sunday 10th December

Santa is returning to the Heritage Centre this year and will be in his cottage grotto to spread seasonal cheer and hear what children would like for Christmas. To see Santa please book one of the timed slots below. Bookings are £4.50 and include a small gift from Santa.

There will also be festive performances by local groups and Christmas crafts for all of the family to try their hand at.

The event runs from 11am to 3.30pm and admission is free

A Victorian Christmas - 30th November

We are opening part of our museum (for free) so you and your family can experience a true Victorian Christmas on the 30th Nov.

We will be lit by candles , Sweet chestnuts will be roasting, Carol singers will be singing, We will be dressed up , Our knitters will be knitting. They’ll be a super tombola and cool woolly hat stall, The cafe and shop will be in full festive swing!

Plus Split Screen Co mulled wine.

And they’ll be traditional children’s activities.

You can book Santa with @ruddingtonvillagemarket and the market will be opening that evening.

With inspiration from the World War 1 Christmas Comfort tin in our collection, learn its story and make your own comfort box to fill with Christmas treats. Learn about how the people of Newark celebrated Christmas in the past with tales of pantomimes at the Palace Theatre, festive games, songs, and more!

Plus, check out our art activities in the studio with Artist in Residence Vanessa Stone.

Rudolf and his ice age friends are hidden around the site this Christmas. Can you help find them? Each of the 7 animals will have a secret letter that spells a festive word. Find them all and discover the word to claim your treat from reception.

Trail sheets are available to purchase from the museum reception during our normal opening hours. No booking necessary.
