Festival of Science & Curiosity

Date: Saturday 11th February

Time: 11 am – 3.30pm (last entry 2.30 pm)

FREE ENTRY to Wollaton Hall to see the Natural History Museum, plus science themed demonstrations in the Great Hall and talks in the Education room.

Event is open to all, though, designed especially for adults & children over 10 years old.

 
Rufford Abbey

Magical Garden Trail

Dates: 11 - 26 February

Times: 10.00am - 4.00pm Daily

Price: £2.50 per trail sheet (each trail sheet allows the holder one treat)

Our favourite magical creatures are back again with a few more surprises for you.

Put on your fairy wings and follow the trail around Rufford Abbey’s Magical Gardens and create your own adventure.

Let your imagination run wild at Rufford Abbey Country park this February half term .

What Happened to You? follows Little Red, Noodles and Bo, three raggedy puppets, trying to enjoy their day...but there are so many busy bodies getting in their way!

Nottingham Festival of Science and Curiosity Science Fun Days


11 February: Meadows Library 10am-2pm

Explore the world of science using microscopes to look at the world in more detail and modelling clay to create cells as well as learning about plant pathology, psychology and much much more!


13 February: Clifton Library 10am - 2pm

You will meet researchers and scientists from Quotient Sciences, discover the science behind plants and rocks, explore neuroscience & find out all about new medicines.


14 February: Strelley Road Library 10am-2pm

Explore the world of Neuroscience, find out what happens in a laboratory with Upperton Pharma, join in with Science busking activities, and take part in workshops exploring climate change.


15 February: St Ann’s Library 10am - 2pm

Explore the micro world of microscopy, learn about the lives of ectoparasites, meet researchers from Sygnature Discovery and find out all about psychology with researchers from the University of Nottingham.


16 February: Bilborough Library 10am - 2pm

Explore the fun in maths, learn about the lives of ectoparasites and meet scientists from local STEM company Catalent.


17 February: Dales Library 10am-2pm

You can explore the world of carbon capture, meet some scientists from local STEM company Catalent and have a go at making your own stopmotion animations.

DISCO SESSIONS - Friday evening (7-9pm) and Saturday afternoon (2.30 – 4.30pm) as we play all the latest hits and our disco lights fill the rink!

THEMED PARENT & TOTS SKATES - Monday 13th, there’s an astronauts and aliens themed session and on Friday 17, the session is themed around dinosaur and fairies. Adults skate for just £5 at these sessions and children aged 5 and under skate for free!

INTENSIVE SKATING LESSONS - Tuesday 14, Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 February

HOLIDAY CLUB - From Monday 13 – Friday 17 February, we’ve got a holiday club on for children aged 7 – 13. For just £35, children will enjoy fun activities and ice skating everyday. Lunch and snacks are also included!

The Big Dot Exhibition 2nd – 25th February 2023 10am-3.30pm

Inspired by Yayois Kusama's Obliteration Room at the Tate last summer, Erewash Museum is hosting its very own interactive sticker exhibition. Over the month of February visitors are invited to transform the Lally Gallery walls into a sea of colourful dots. No two days will be the sames, as more dots are added to the walls of the gallery, it will continue to grow and develop until finally at the end of the month the project will have been completed.

Come along and join professional artist Rachel Scanlon for this Spring themed making session, creating your very own ‘Mini Spring Garden’- little planted gardens in trays, using real seeds and soil, sprinkled lightly with water – which will eventually grow! You will then add in crafty home-made flowers, fences, houses, insects, and even people along with pebbles, feathers and more. Have loads of fun making, getting creative and maybe even a bit messy! Parents are required to stay during the session and are very welcome to join in.


Free Capoeira Workshop for Kids (Ages 6-13)

Capoeira is a Brazilian art form combining dance, music and martial arts in a fun yet challenging ‘game’.

This creative and interactive workshop is open to both complete beginners and young people who have practised capoeria before.

Come along to the Playhouse and join experienced dance teacher Naomi Moore for an hour of upbeat child-friendly music, warm up games, basic technique, and creative movement tasks in groups.

The session will be huge fun, a great chance to learn and grow your dance skills, and will conclude with a short 5-minute sharing for friends and family.



The World Famous Baby and Toddler Disco! (Ages 2-5years)

Thu 16 Feb 10am and 12pm

Yes, it’s a disco for tiny people! Equally enioyable for parents and children alike – come and dance, socialise, do some crafting, play games and sing along. The music is a brilliant mixture of children’s songs and music the grown-ups can enjoy too. It’s the best childrens party ever – including free books as prizes, a piece of fruit to take away AND free face painting!

Tickets: £7 per child (one adult free. Only one adult per child. Additional tickets will need to be purchased for any additional adults who would like to attend).



Play in a Day – Romeo and Juliet (Ages 8 – 13) £15

Thu 16 Feb, 10.30am – 4pm, Sharing at 3.30pm

One day - one play.

This ever popular half term experience is for young people who love to make theatre really quickly. Led once again by theatre-maker Evie Osbon, the children spend the day learning and creating a short, quirky, modern-language version of Romeo and Juliet, before showing their creation to parents and carers in a short informal sharing at 3.30pm.
