Christmas Light Switch On Events in Nottinghamshire

Loads of local towns in Nottinghamshire are hosting their own switch on events this year.

As well as marvelling at the light displays and decorations, most events will have even more to offer including street food, performances, gift stalls and local businesses supporting the events.

These events are all FREE to experience with the exception of the National Ice Centre.

So check out the details of your town below (listed alphabetically):


Friday 24 November from 4pm

outside the AMP building at the former Arnold Market site.

Join us for the Arnold Christmas Light Switch On, sponsored by Robert Ellis Estate Agents. The event will feature performances from local schools and choirs, a lantern parade, street entertainers and even a visit from Santa! A number of local busin

esses, including several at the AMP building, will also be staying open late throughout the event. An indoor craft fair will be open next to the event, at Arnold Methodist Church, with stalls selling items such as cards, festive food and gifts. The Christmas lights will be switched on by the Mayor of Gedling, Councillor Julie Najuk at 6.30pm.

Hucknall market place car park and Hucknall High Street

Hucknall’s stage will feature a mix of choirs from the National C of E Primary School, Linby-cum-Papplewick CE Primary, Hucknall Flying High Academy and Hucknall Torkard Ensemble Choir; dance groups Elise Florence Dance Company, Phase One School of Dance, Believe Academy Dance School and Kirsty Ceroc Dancers and live music from Hucknall Ukulele Group and Izzy Pop Show Band.

Visitors to Hucknall will be delighted to find almost 80 stalls with an array of hot food, snacks, gifts, and crafts including world street food, German sausages, hot chocolate and waffles.


30th November, 4pm-7.30pm

Kirkby Plaza

Kirkby’s Christmas Celebration stage will feature performances from Kingsway, Orchard, and Greenwood Primary Schools, Fortitude Dancew

orks, and Christine March School of Dance. The grand finale will be the Red Hot Band to close the event.

Kirkby’s Christmas market features 50 stalls with a variety of food, gifts and crafts on offer across Kirkby Plaza and Lowmoor Road. Moor Market will be open late for the event with stalls and food inside for people to shelter from the cold. The fairground rides will be on Ellis Street.


Thursday 23 November, 4pm - 7.30pm Sutton Market Place car park

Sutton’s Christmas Celebration event will feature a packed stage with performances from Leamington Primary Academy, St Mary Magdalene Primary School, Dalestorth School Choir, Regency Dance Centre, and Star and Stage. The stage will finish with a grand finale by Breanna. As well as the live entertainment there will be almost 50 stalls for visitors to browse on Market Place car park, King Street and Low Street, and plenty of food options to keep the whole family happy.

Remember those classic hits All Rise, Lay Your Hands, No Worries, and Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word?Now, more than 20 years after that success, Blue’s very own Simon Webbe will be recreating his 00s music magic on stage at The Big Switch On, Mansfield’s free Christmas lights switch-on event in the town's Market Place on Sunday 26 November.

He will be the headline act for the Switch On stage show, hosted by local radio station Mansfield 103.2 from 3pm to 5pm, which also features sounds from a Michael Bublé tribute act and female vocalist Ellie Butler.

There will be entertainment around the town centre all day with plenty of festive food vendors, Christmas crafts, roaming live music, giveaways, and a jolly party atmosphere.

PARK FREE - every Saturday & Sunday from the 26th November there will be FREE car parking in all NSDC car parks

Christmas Fun at Inspire Buttermarket

As part of the Newark Christmas Lights Switch on event on Sunday 26 November - join the Inspire team and friends from 12 until 4 pm at the Buttermarket venue and on the beautiful Mezzanine floor for magical Christmas performances, making and merriment.

Sunday 26th November 2-6pm

Come and be part of the Mapperley Christmas Lights Switch on 2023! It's going to be even bigger than last year, with more performances and a later end time.

We've got choirs, dancers, a brass band, local artists. As well as craft stalls and charity stalls from across the community. Kid's bring your pocket money because there's prizes to be won!!! Oh and what's more... Santa will be there with his sleigh!

We're pleased to welcome the Mayor of Gedling to switch on the lights at 5pm. This year we're hoping for some mass carol singing and to give everyone a chance to create a piece of artwork to go into the Mapperley Christmas Shed! It's a great opportunity to come and join in with a great community event and raise some Christmas cheer!


Please note this event is not organised by the council and is raising money for charity


26th November 5pm

Retford Town Hall, Buttermarket, Retford Market Square, Carolgate, and throughout the Town Centre

Retford Christmas Market provides entertainment on stage from 10.30am to 5.45pm with the switch-on of the lights at 5pm. There are stalls in the Retford Town Hall and Buttermarket as well as the Market Square and around the town. Further entertainment will be available at the Grove Church on Grove St where the Star Festival will also be located.


Saturday November 18, 10-6

Central Avenue and the Croquet Lawn in West Bridgford

Enjoy family fun entertainment from 10am to 5pm and explore over 40 stalls offering festive food, drink, arts, crafts and more! There will be a special performance from Nottingham’s wonderful Our Dementia Choir with Vicky McClure from 4pm followed by the annual light switch on at 5pm by our Mayor of Rushcliffe Cllr Debbie Mason with low noise fireworks!

2.30pm to 3pm – St Edmund Campion

3pm to 3.45pm – Rock Choir

25th November

Join us at Worksop Old Market Square for the Christmas Lights switch on event for 2023!

This FREE to attend family event is the perfect way to start the festive activities. Head to Worksop on Saturday 25th November, 12:00pm - 6:30pm.

Watch some fascinating street entertainment Enjoy free bauble decorating by the Charter Trustee's children's Christmas tree Do some of your Christmas shopping from the range of stalls Eat some delicious food from food vendors & local eateries Take part in a free lantern making workshop, followed by a short parade with the lanterns up to the main stage Watch live entertainment on the main stage, including the fabulous Eltonesque Gaze up at the fireworks & enjoy the lights being turned on


National Ice Centre

Saturday 25 November, 2.30 - 4.30pm

Be the first to skate in our Christmas themed rink as we officially launch Christmas skating at the National Ice Centre. We will have a surprise guest turning on our magical Christmas lights before our first festive skating session begins! The rink and our tree will be twinkling as you skate so it’s going to be magical… we can’t wait! Santa is also making a trip to our grotto on selected dates in December so why not pay him a visit for the ultimate Christmas day out? A visit to the grotto includes a meet with Santa, a ice skating pass, a gift and a drinks token. If your child is aged 5 and under, the accompanying adult can use the skating p

ass instead.
